Entry #31

I know, I know, this is late.  I know that most of you probably don’t care too much about these analyses anyway, since I don’t hear any of you complaining, but hey, why stop now?  After all, I’m sure that, even if you don’t squee everytime I update, you still enjoy reading these.  So, let’s get started with our analysis.

Let’s just start by saying that this Entry is a comparatively whopping 7:33 long.  Jay is looking for the place in Entry #29.  Since he has no idea how he got there, he naturally assumes that he had taken it in the general area he currently is, but hey, maybe he did.  Aaaaanyway.  He goes looking for the place in Entry #29.  Why would you do that, Jay?  I thought the goal was to get away from the Slender Man.  On the other hand, he found blood.  Naturally, he’d be curious and try to get to the bottom of things.

So he finds Rosswood park, which looks like the right place.  It’s a large park with a series of trails in the trees.  It’s worth noting now that he’s using the handheld camera instead of the chest one.  He walks around, and there were some problems with video lag and framerate choppiness.  However, Jay took the video down and reuploaded it, saying that it was due to the video being rendered poorly.  The new video does run much more smoothly.

Jay walks around the paths, a bit of text informing us that most of the trails are old and poorly maintained.  Of note is a guy in a black hoodie, who appears to be following Jay.  That, or Jay is paranoid and going crazy.

After a while, Jay comes to a creek, and while it’s possible that a lot of other creeks have that type of coloration, I’m tempted to say that this is our place.  Jay mutters something here, which sounds something like “It’s starting to rain.”  That would explain why he doesn’t follow the river to find the culvert.  He cuts the video short because it starts raining, and he won’t be able to record well if the camera lens gets soaked—not to mention it could ruin it entirely if the rain is heavy enough.

Anyway, at this point, he sees Black Hoodie Guy (let’s just call him Hoodie for future reference).  Hoodie is standing completely still and looking at the ground.  This causes Jay to freak out a bit.  He tries approaching the man, trying to get his attention, but the man doesn’t seem to hear him.  Finally, he taps Hoodie on the shoulder, and he turns around.

I’ve gotta admit, I was expecting a mask.  But no, he was just listening to his iPod!  All this buildup has either been one elaborate Cat Scare, or Hoodie’s playing dumb.  It all depends on whether or not we see him again.  Also, I can’t be the only one who expected Hoodie to grumble “Piss off, I’m taking a leak here.”

Jay heads back to the hotel, partially because of the rain and partially because of paranoia.  He decides to talk to Jessica.  We’re back to the chest cam here.  She seems really pissy.  I wonder.  Actually, I don’t.  He let’s slip that he “just got here,” and that “his job relocated him,” and she calls him on his bluff, reminding him that he was there because his house was being renovated.  He lies to her face, of course.

This is when the…well, the most noteworthy part of the video comes.  She asks if he’s been feeling all right.  He says that apart from lack of sleep, he’s fine.  And then, she asks if he’s dealt with memory loss.

Wham.  How would she know that?  Is she dealing with the same thing?  Because that’s not the first thing you assume someone has.  There are two options now: Jessica is in a similar situation and correctly assumes from his behavior that Jay is going through the same thing.  That, or Jessica is a Masky of some sort and is taunting him by revealing that she knows who he is.  Jay answers no, and says on Twitter that it’s because he doesn’t know if he can trust her.  Can’t say I blame him.

Well, tomorrow I’m putting up an FAQ page where you can ask me questions.  I’ll answer and put them up on a separate page tab once I’ve got enough questions.

Hey, everyone. I'm a sophomore at [University name removed for my own privacy] who's taken a liking to the Slender Man myth. I have taken a strong liking to the Slender Man myth. The Slender Man myth has taken a strong liking to me.

There is another good reason for Jessica to ask him that thing. He could begin to appear a little, might I say, mentally instable to her. It could be that she simply worries about him being or getting mentally sick and maybe she asked him because she worried about that stranger showing symptoms of amnesia and wanted to get him help.

That is also a possibility. After all, he’s given three reasons for being there (documentary on hotels, house renovation, job relocated him). On the other hand, this is fiction. The fact that she doesn’t know or isn’t experiencing the same thing is small. It probably wouldn’t be in there otherwise.

It isn’t that normal to have black outs. You have to be pretty screwed up in the head if you have one. It’s not common enough as to be something you ask a practical stranger, even short term memory loss would be more known and possible in the eyes of a normal person.

Also, this chapter only did two things. It created a little tension at the park, which left us with the ol’ blue balls; and kept going with the Jessica story, which is the only possible way the plot can go now unless they throw a deus ex machina.
So, either everything Jessica related is important or we are waisting time.

On another note: it would have been cool if your analysis had a little more theorizing. Why would a proxy act like Hoodie? What would it mean that Jessica is a proxy and what would it mean that she’s a runner? If she’s a runner, and Alex too, could that be because the blogs are affecting the vlogs (since only those have been working the idea of runners and their lives, and so far the blogs have been more affected by the vlogs than the other way around)?

If he was using the handycam, imagine him walking around with the camera on his hand, acting as if he could only see through it (he used to just point to the ground while he walked, but now he almost never does that). Now, do you see how stupid he looked in Hoodie’s eyes?

Sorry for the long comment. My hands just kept writing…

That approach to the Hoodie guy almost killed me. I had to stop the video and skip ahead. Also, the glimpses of him walking through the trees go to show that you can make anything scary.

Jessica is by far the most interesting addition to the story in this season. I really can’t wait to see what her deal is (I’m personally guessing she’s being stalked by Slendy as well, although I have no idea what the thumping noises are).

My only real criticism is I wish they’d use the chest camera more, since it’s much easier to see what’s going on when he’s using it.
