Entry #27

So, guess what’s started back up?

That’s right, folks.  After a seven month wait, Jay (AKA “J”) of Marble Hornets has given us a new video.  This blog entry will be talking about Entry #27, so if you haven’t seen the video yet, you should probably go click that link.

So first, a brief update on the Twitter thing.  For those who don’t know, the Twitter feed had three mysterious pictures posted to it.

Anyway, it appears that totheark hijacked the Twitter, as he (I’m assuming it was him, at least) hijacked the main account before to post Entry #####.  Jay posts on the 23rd to say that he’s changed his password and that Entry #27 will be up soon.  So now that we’ve covered that, on to the entry itself.

The video is almost pitch-black.  However, there’s enough light/movement to catch that it is, in fact, a recording.  In the background, there’s a deep, rhythmic noise.  To me, it almost sounds like a washer or dryer, but it’s hard to tell what exactly it is.  It’s revealed, after a bit, that Jay is in a hotel.  There seems to be just a little bit of audio distortion, and the camera appears to have a fisheye lens effect going on.  Not sure what’s up with that effect, but it’s there for most of the video.  It may be important later on.

After about two and a half minutes of Jay in the hotel room, we’re treated to another road shot, where it’s revealed that we’ve been waiting seven whole months for this to come out.  Gee, how are you going to add realism to that, especially after the big cliffhanger you left us on?

What’s that?  Jay…can’t remember the last seven months at all?  Oh….

The part of me that isn’t screaming “copout!” is shivering, because, thought it may be a copout, it’s an incredibly chilling one.  He didn’t used to have memory gaps nearly that long, I don’t even think that Alex had a blank that long.

So, anyway, apart from that, it’s really nothing too special.  Jay lets us know that he has no idea where he is (though I’m sure we’ll learn soon) or where he got the new camera he’s been using.  He ends the video by saying that he’s going to be laying low for a couple of days.

So, thoughts on this…well, to be honest, I wasn’t expecting the memory blank thing.  However, this gives the series the perfect thing to post.  I’m assuming that, during that time, Jay was still filming himself (after all, he did have a camera on him when he “woke up”), and he still has the tapes around somewhere.  The second season will be similar to the first, only this time, instead of desperately searching for clues in Alex’s tapes, he’s going to be searching for clues in his own.  While it sounds kind of like a rehash, it’s altogether much more chilling.  In the first entries, at least we knew that Alex grew irritable and left, and those who had heard some about the series before going into it knew that the Slender Man (or rather, the Operator, according to the YouTube channel of Troy Wagner, who plays Jay).  Now, we know nothing, and chances are that Jay barely knows more than us.

I am so looking forward to new entries, and will be providing similar analysis as they come out.

Andy

Edit: Also, Windows Live Writer is much nicer to work with than the WordPress editor.  Forget to center a single line?  Gotta do the whole thing over!  Accidentally delete the picture?  Too bad!  No undo button!  Got the link ready?  Tough.  It’s gotta be an upload from your hard drive.  I hope I don’t have to go through that again.

This second coment of mine serves two purposes, non of which are filling your inbox with alerts of comments.

First: To mark the notify for updates thingy.

Second: I’m a filmschool guy and it’s so weird, funny and teaching to read what people see in the slendervideos.
Most of the audio and video effects they use are things I recognize and could probably number the filters used as soon as I see them (although it’s usually just one at the time). It’s strange that you mentioned how those tearing and changes in audio, very basic stuff that in a lot of cases even comes as a preset, made you feel unconformable.

I guess it’s a good lesson about how little does more than too much.

No, by all means, the comment alert thing is a good sort of inbox-spamming. I love reading people’s comments.

I think that the reason these basic distortions make people upset isn’t because they’re inherently scary…it’s because they signify something’s presence. That, and they’re out of place. We don’t know what’s causing the distortion. And there’s really nothing that humans hate more than being in the dark about something. What we don’t understand scares us.

I suspect that no one hacked the MH channel. I’m thinking that J posted those during his blackout periods. Which leaves one wondering if he has a white mask of his own…
